Denbury Homes has revealed the winner of a design-a-bedroom competition held in collaboration with South Lee Prep School & Nursery.
Forty-five pupils from years 6 – 8 at South Lee Prep took part in the competition which saw them asked to design a child’s bedroom suitable for one of the show homes at Denbury Homes’ St Edmunds Gate development in Bury St Edmunds.
The school shortlisted 10 designs for Denbury Homes and their interior design firm, Rendall & Wright, to select a winner from.
Sara Raven, Sales & Marketing Director at Denbury Homes said: “We were so impressed by the quality of the designs the children put forward, they embraced the challenge, listened carefully to the brief and came up with some really creative and exciting ideas.”
The winning design was by Year 8 pupil, Maggie P.
Sara continues: “It was a very difficult choice, there were definitely some budding designers at work! Maggie’s idea stood out though, her eye-catching rainbow mural is a beautiful design that adds plenty of character to the room without being overwhelming.
“The professional designers at Rendall & Wright are now working to bring Maggie’s ideas to life. We can’t wait for Maggie to see the finished room when we open the show home in March 2025.
Sarah Catchpole, Head of South Lee Prep School & Nursery, commented: “I’m very proud of the enthusaism with which the children took on this task. It’s been an invaluable experience for our pupils, giving them an opportunity to apply their creativity to a real-world challenge. Congratulations to Maggie and to all those who took part.”
The winner was announced by the school in assembly.
The show home, which will be the second to open at Denbury Homes’ flagship deveopment at St Edmunds Gate, will be a three-bedroom townhouse. Denbury Homes will be inviting Maggie and some of her fellow pupils to be part of the official opening.
Sara concludes: “Our townhouses offer plenty of flexibility for families, the downstairs study is great for working from home or could be a snug or media room for older children. So it’s lovely that we’ve been able to work with South Lee Prep to get a child’s perspective on our interior design. I hope Maggie is excited about seeing the bedroom once it’s finished!”
The first show home at St Edmunds Gate opened in January 2025 and is open all week for viewing.
